We’ve won!

Today we are celebrating a massive win for Can Can and the More Than A Score Drop SATs 2021 campaign!

Gavin Williamson has finally seen sense and said this year’s SATs and other formal assessments will be cancelled. His announcement comes after many months of hard campaigning by Can Can and the More Than A Score coalition, supported by tens of thousands of amazing parents, heads and teachers.

So for two consecutive years now, SATs have been scrapped. The skies have not fallen in. Our children have not suffered harm. Parents have not even noticed. And head teachers and teachers throughout the country, not to mention 10- and 11-year-olds, have yet again breathed a huge, collective sigh of relief.

This gives us a powerful platform from which to campaign for SATs and all other government tests to be dropped for good. More than a third of children each year go off to secondary school having been told they have failed SATS, and children from our deprived communities are inevitably hit so much harder by this curse of failure. It’s time to say goodbye to these outmoded, ideologically-driven and damaging tests.

Watch this space. And in the meantime, please join us in celebrating. Today, we are the champions, and together we can win!
